Why Alpacas?
"The true harvest of my daily life is somewhat intangible and indescribable as the tints of morning or evening. It is a little star-dust caught, a segment of rainbow which I have clutched." - Henry David Thoreau
My childhood dream was to live on a farm. John, having experience raising and caring for cows, horses and pigs in his childhood, knew I wouldn't be happy tending a typical farm. There would be no slaughtering of animals that lived in our barn! Still hoping to be able to fulfill my dream and his desire to farm, he picked up a flier at a county fair in 1996 about alpacas and llamas, then very new to our country. Like is true for so many of you reading this, alpacas seemed the perfect choice in livestock for us. The planning began, and the dream became a reality.
We are proud of the 70+ herd of beautifully fleeced alpacas and elite herdsires we have assembled here at our farm. When we look out into the pastures, we see color and quality that we are proud to have in our breeding program and proud to offer to others for purchase.
John and I have worked hard over the last 13 years building a strong, solid herd that focues on elite fiber and genetics that have stood the test of time. We've received blue ribbons and championships in fleece shows around the country. The truth is, we've had fun doing it. We've loved learning about and experiencing these wonderful creatures up close and personal each and every day. We love the soft feel of alpaca fiber and creating products that people love from it. Most of all we have developed life-long friendships with other alpaca owners. Alpaca owners and breeders just seem to be the nicest kind of folks around!
We belive our life becomes a compliation of choices we have made that lead us down a certain path. Choosing alpacas, farming, and country living has made a nearly perfect suited life for John and me. If you can gain any knowledge or generate an ideas from visiting our farm or browsing through our website, or if we have increased your level of excitement about raising alpacas, we are pleased. That is our goal. If we can ever help you in any way, please know we will be happy to do so. There is nothing more rewarding than sharing the love of alpacas with someone else.
